Fedoras, Empire and Facebook

Fedoras

Nicol and I went shopping this past weekend for new clothes for our yearly family pictures. I went to target and was specifically looking for a black shirt to wear and match my family. As I was perusing through the men's accessories I came across one of the coolest accessories ever, a fedora hat.

I have always loved hats. For a while in high school I was collecting hats from different parts of the world: Russia, Zimbabwe, Mexico, etc. and even wore them. Anyway, we could call it a fetish if you must.

The price of this hat made it super affordable for me to buy, so I decided to go against custom and buy it. Nicol approved, which is the most important part and I have worn it proudly for the last two days. Nobody has made any negative comments about my peculiar hat, with the exception of my Mom that said I looked like her father when he was younger.

Olivia thinks the hat is cool and loves to see her Dad wear one ike the snowman she owns.

With a gentleman's hat, comes responsibility such as proper etiquette. Did you know that a man is supposed to doff his hat in front of ladies? For more enlightening etiquette visit:

Next on my list: a bowler hat!

Empire

I recently finished a book on tape written by Orson Scott Card called Empire. Empire is a pseudo-sci-fi-thriller story about a possible civil war in the future of the United States.

Although the scenario for such a war is unlikely, he makes some very good points about the polarization of our society. Especially how both extremes of the aisle: Right Wing Republicans and Bleeding Heart Democrats have hijacked the government from those of us that are more moderate.

The book is akin to the works of Tom Clancy, yet different and well thought out. OSC was commissioned by a private company to write this story as a background to a video game, which carries out in this scenario.

The book was great and wonderfully read by an actor. The only thing I wished it was different about the book was the ending. I really wanted to know whether he killed the president or not.

Maybe that will be answered in a sequel.

Facebook

My first experience with Facebook was not a pleasant one. Nicol got that nasty virus in her computer about two weeks ago and I spent the better part of an evening fixing her computer.

Then she tells me she has made me an account so she can link to me and say she is “married to me”.

I gave it a spin tonight and I think it is a great way to keep tabs and in touch with friends and family. I have even found some long lost cousins in my homeland.

The feature I like best is how you can find people through your friends. Maybe you had lost contact and now voila! you have found your buddy from junior high busy networking.

Please be smart about it! Do no post private information in it and specially do not click on any unknown attachments.
